Electroacupuncture

Electroacupuncture is an acupuncture technique that involves the application of a small electrical current into the acupuncture needles in order to make the acupuncture treatment work faster and more effectively.

What conditions can electroacupuncture treat? At target Therapeutics we use electroacupuncture to treat pain that is located in a specific and identifiable location of a muscle or tendon or ligament in your body. Examples include periformis syndrome around your hip, shin splints, rotator cuff tendonitis, tension headaches or golfers or tennis elbow ( as demonstrated in the picture below). Your therapist will determine if electroacupuncture is appropriate for the type of pain that you are experiencing.

Does electroacupuncture hurt? The sensation felt by the patient is one of small electrical pulsations that are painless and may result in the twitching of the muscle that is being treated. Some minor bruising or bleeding may occur, which is the result of a needle hitting small blood vessels.
