High Arches and Foot Pain

High arches or Pes cavus is defined as foot having an abnormally high arch. This foot type retain their high-arched appearance when weight bearing. It may be not be the cause of discomfort when the patient is young however, often becomes progressively symptomatic with age.  The reason for pain is because the weight of your whole body is distributed over the heel and the balls of your foot and not over the entire surface of the bottom of the foot.  Painful calluses often develop over these areas of high pressure as a protective mechanism.
